We all want to be more productive. There is never enough time in the day to accomplish everything we want to get done. Yet short of magically adding hours to the work week, what else can be done?
Here are some tips on how to maximize your time and efficiency from Forbes:
Use Sunday evening for planning the week. Take a moment Sunday night to plan out your week. Look through your meetings, to-do list, and email so you are prepared. Schedule in fun activities, such as a workout or happy hour too, so you have things to look forward too.
Prioritize your workday. Create a to-do list. Then choose the top priorities on the list: this is what you need to focus on first.
Schedule a time to check email. Constantly checking every new email as it pops up in your inbox not only is time consuming, it distracts you from the task at hand. Carve out a time to check your emails so you aren’t constantly flipping back and forth between different tasks.
Take breaks. Schedule breaks every hour or so. It can be as simple as grabbing a coffee, or walking around the building. Just get up out of your chair. You’ll clear your head, and return more refreshed.
Block out distractions. During your working time, stay away from social media and any tempting internet sites. If you need to, sites such as Google Chrome’s Nanny can block access from sites while you are working.
Avoid the cell phone. Same concept as the internet and email. Constantly checking your phone distracts you from the task at hand and can make it difficult to concentrate. Turn it off or keep it in a drawer until it is time to take a break.
